The Press Enterprise: Rep. Takano honors former councilman Ameal Moore
Three-term Riverside councilman Ameal Moore, who died April 29 of cancer, was honored on the House floor Tuesday, May 7, by Rep. Mark Takano, D-Riverside.
Moore, the city’s second black councilman, represented Ward 2 from 1994 to 2006. He also served for eight years in the Air Force, worked for the U.S. Postal Service and volunteered with many community groups over the years. Read a news obituary for Moore here.
In his floor speech, Takano described Moore’s record of service and noted that his activism was driven in part by the murder of his brother by the Ku Klux Klan in 1965.
“During his tenure, Ameal showed an unparalleled passion toward improving our community,” Takano said. “Riverside is incredibly lucky to have had such a remarkable and dedicated public servant like Ameal Moore. He will be missed.”
